Specify the vessel duty

One tank can have several jobs—but each must be named.

A useful tank brief distinguishes what happens during charging, mixing, temperature change, waiting and discharge. That prevents a generic vessel description from hiding the real process.

Separate simple blending from solids suspension, let-down, emulsification, wall movement or other defined duties.

Batch behavior

Describe viscosity change, foaming, settling, heat sensitivity and the effect of the addition sequence.

Handoff and cleaning

Plan drainage, transfer, product recovery and changeover as part of the tank—not an afterthought.

A mixing tank may start, finish or stabilize the batch.

Its place in the line determines whether the priority is charging, dispersion support, final adjustment, holding or transfer.

Equipment questions

A tank RFQ should explain more than volume.

What determines the mixing arrangement inside a tank?

The arrangement follows the required duty and material behavior: circulation, blending, suspension, addition, heat transfer support, shear, holding and discharge can call for different approaches.

Is a mixing tank the same as a reactor?

Not automatically. “Reactor” is a scope-dependent term for a vessel where a controlled reaction occurs. The process conditions and required design basis must be defined before that term accurately describes the equipment.

Why include transfer and cleaning in the tank brief?

A batch is not finished when mixing stops. Drainage, recovery, transfer route and changeover method affect vessel geometry, connections and the practical operating sequence.

What should be included in a custom mixing-tank RFQ?

Include tank purpose, material behavior, working batch, addition sequence, temperature objective, mixing endpoint, transfer destination, cleaning method, controls boundary and available utilities.
